    Hello Derrick,

Thanks for the report. I’m facing a big difficulty in building a list of responsive
Subscribers. Is it a matter of quality of the leads or it’s just time? What is the ideal
Number of subscribers that someone should have to ensure positive response?
Would you give me some tips on how to go about it?
    Thanks,
    Mona

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 18:59 | #3

Mona, I agree with you that it’s difficult to build a list of responsive subscribers. You need a plan of action for moving people from a free offer to a paid offer as quickly as possible and that’s part of what I’ll be teaching in this coaching program.

There is no “ideal number” of subscribers. I would rather have 100 buyers than 1,000 freebie seekers any day. This coaching program, which will also be available later as a course, will show you how to get quality leads, build relationships, and get more buyers from your list.

      Tips?

      1. Let your readers know from the start exactly what to expect if they stay on as a subscriber. Let them know that you will be recommending quality products and services that you truly believe will help them succeed.

      2. Sell low-cost products to your list to weed out the buyers and always inject scarcity into your marketing. Limited time/quantity offer work best.

      3. Set up deals for your subscribers by getting other product owners to make a special offer for your list only.

Instead of just blasting your list with promotion after promotion. Make every every special and they’ll look forward to getting good deals from you.

      Hope that helps.

      Derrick

Very clear and good information – thanks Derrick. The issue I struggle with is the relationship-building part. I have a full time job (completely unrelated to internet marketing/business building – I am a scientist) and am pretty much a newbie to the online world (although I would like it to be my full-time income some day). In order to build relationships, one needs to share information that will be attractive to his/her readers. Since I am not an online guru (and making money online will be the focus of my list), what do I share to keep my subscribers engaged and happy to continue to hear from me (so that I can market to them)?

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:08 | #11

Ana, building relationship is not just about offering free content. It’s also about building a reputation for something like getting people good deals, making special offers, or pointing out great resources.

For example, I found a cool place to get free Twitter Backgrounds (TwitBack.com). So I posted on my blog and sent it out to my list. Or how about YouConvertit.com where you can convert documents to all different formats, inclducing PDF, for free.

That only takes a few minutes and people will thank you. Check out this post too http://derrickvandyke.com/?p=105. That took a little research. But it helps build a bond with my readers.

List building is my current project, I just happened upon your video describing how to create one the right way, and as a result stopped what I was doing. I obtained a new domain, steve-steiner.com (stevesteiner.com was already taken).

Armed with the information I got from the video, I think my list building will have more chance to succeed. I will be working on setting up my auto responder and hope to have a first campaign running by tomorrow afternoon.

I am so impressed by the look of your home page that I intend to “borrow” some ideas from it for my own. I had the idea of having a resource page filled with affiliate links to resources that I use as well as a “Free” section. After reading some of your articles, I realized that the “free” stuff should contain branded eBooks wherever possible.

Any tips you give will be appreciated AND ACTED UPON as you can see from my changing my “main” domain and reply to email address.

Thanks for all the free stuff. Once I get a decent sized list, I hope I can get in on a JV with you for your upcoming products.

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:33 | #15

Steve, a blog is a great way to communicate with and get feedback from your subscribers. It’s also a great platform for showing social proof and creating buzz about upcoming events.

I can get you your first thousand subscribers if you’re interested in the coaching program.

    Hi Derrick,

Found it a quick and easy report to read, covering the major points.
Thought you may have mentioned the use of video, especially on the squeeze page.
Would be useful to hear what other methods you recommend for driving targeted buyers to our web pages.

    Best wishes

    Alun

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:19 | #17

Alun, video helps if it’s well done. It can hurt if it sucks. ;)

To get buyers, I suggest selling low-cost resell rights products or your own small reports. Pay 100% commission and get people to promote.

If you create your own reports, you can sell PLR and get a lot of buyers from a WSO.

      Derrick

  13. October 2nd, 2009 at 19:02 | #18

    Hey Derek,

The one piece of the marketing puzzle that I’m missing is a subscriber list. I’ve been following you for a while and I’m confident that you are the go-to guy to get it done.

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:16 | #19

Robert, it’s really simple… set up a squeeze page with a free offer and get people to opt in. If you need help, go to rentacoder.com and hire somebody from the Philippines if your short on cash. Whatever it takes man.

Next, use one of the many methods of getting traffic to build a seed list of 500 or so. I’m sure you have downloaded dozens of reports on getting traffic.

Once you have a seed list, start swapping ads with other marketers, set up joint ventures and integration marketing.

Stay focused and get it done. ;)

    Mr. Vandyke,
I’ve been doing business online for years, selling my services and info products. Never really gave much thought to affiliate marketing, on either side, as the merchant or the affiliate.
After reading your emails and reports, I am rethinking my approach and wanted to thank you for that.
The idea of someone else helping me sell my product is appealing and I have no issue with someone else getting 50% of the sales price for their efforts.
I look forward to reading more from you.

Any advice for sellers of info to create a large army of affiliates?
    Without using clickbank?

    Again, thank you,
    Jim
a/k/a The Biker Who Buys Houses

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:23 | #21

Jim, first you need affiliate tracking software. If you use PayPal, I suggest Surefire Profit System. If you have a merchant account, you can use Idev Affiliate or another stand alone affiliate tracking software. Just search Google.

To build an army of affiliates, you need to be competitive with your offer (to your affiliates) and give them plenty of promotional tools. Train your affiliates and run contests several times a year.

The tip regarding posting a WSO offer on WarriorForum.com is great. Can we have more details on how to build the offer and the sales page and post it?

    Thanks :)

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:26 | #24

Chad, create an account at http://warriorforum.com and start posting and replying to posts. They won’t allow you to post an offer until you start contributing to the community.

Next, look at other free offers that got a lot of views. Create a similar offer.

You have to upgrade to post a WSO ($37 one-time fee).

It costs $20 per offer. But you can get a lot of leads for 20 bucks and once it hits the third page, you can bump it back up for another $20.

      Hope that helps.

    Derrick,

Just a quick compliment to you on your ability to put so
much content into such a relatively short report.

    Well Done.

The takeaway for any new marketers reading your content is simply
that if you follow any decent system, then if they work at it, success WILL come.

I am sure your coaching program and subsequent product will
match your exceptionally high standards, and will give
real support and direction to many New and Intermediate IM’ers.

Good Luck and best wishes to all.

    Hey Derrick,

Great report! I’ve been at this several years and most of that stuff is “old hat”. I mean, it’s pretty simple stuff. It’s stuff a lot of us do all the time. But, the way you put it all together with the step-by-step actions list is exceptional. It’s a complete system that sounds almost too easy.

That’s one of biggest obstacles with most of the info-crap floating around out there. The systems or blueprints are either incomplete, assuming we already have the rest of the puzzle in place or so massive, you don’t know where to start.

Well, I definitely saw a couple things to add to my daily activities, and if this is in the top 100 comments, and gets answered, I guess it should have a question, huh?

So, I’m in desperate need of a mentor. I’m well versed in all things I.M. and have no troubles with the technical stuff either. My biggest problem is procrastination and focusing on one thing at a time. I need someone to put their foot in my ass when I’m slacking, and to hold me to some sort of timeline to keep me from putting things off til the last minute. Any suggestions???

    Thanks,
    B. Stone

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:43 | #27

      Brian, try Tony Robbins. LOL

I can’t really help you because I’m the same way. But lately, I’ve been trying to stay focused on just 2 or 3 projects at a time.

There are some good time-management courses out there and I’ve read several myself. It all comes down to actually DOING it and that’s the hardest part.

Hit me on Skype sometime if you want to pursue a JV.

  19. October 2nd, 2009 at 19:33 | #28

    Hey guys,

Derrick is handing you everything you need to know to build an online business that will pay you over and over for years to come.

Don’t get caught up in the “I don’t know how to do that”. None of us knew “jack” about any of that when we first started either :-)

Most of us learned by trial and error. The important thing is.. to just do it. You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going, then work on tweaking it for improvement later.

Take Derrick’s list and make sub-lists under each “step”.

Those sub-categories should be “I know how to do this” and “I don’t know how to do this”.

Under the heading “I don’t know how to do..”, make a list of things you need so that you can learn how to do that step.

The first place to look is on your hard drive for tools or training that you may already have but have forgotten about! No need to spend more money unnecessarily.

If you need a tool or training resource to help you learn a task, then go out and search for them in Google or just ask people in forums, etc

Once you find a resource that will help you move forward to the next step, invest in it, digest it, and put it into action.

Believe me, once you actually write down your plan/ roadmap and lay out the steps and tools that you need to get to your destination, you’ll find yourself making strides at lightening pace.

So take Derrick’s system he laid out for you in his report and make your “to-do map” and take massive action!

Rome wasn’t built in a day..

    but it WAS built. :-)

    Dave

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:36 | #29

Well said David! Taking massive action is the one thing that leads to massive success and separates the doers from the naysayers.

Are you open for a joint venture any time soon? ;)

Always on the quest for knowledge and
I thank you for your report and truthfully
I wish to be surprise with the content.

The reason I says this is that lately
many advertise what the guru’s don’t
want you to know. It seems the thing
to say to attract. However I know for a
fact your are not an unknown.

    Thank you again

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:49 | #33

Claude, I don’t use that phrase lightly. The fact is, a lot of marketers want affiliates to promote their products with pay per click and social marketing instead of working together, promoting each other, and building a list.

They sell “push button” stuff that doesn’t require a website or they offer you some ready made “business in a box” that actually holds you back from REAL success in the long run.

I say “a lot” of marketers not all marketers. But I know this because I buy hundreds of “guru” products every year!

I’m new to internet marketing and have been reading and learning a lot. I am in the process of finding quality products that convert and creating some type of website for people to learn and hopefully house a combination of related products to market and sell. Help! I hope I’m invited to your course. Thanks for the great info!

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 19:56 | #38

Sharon, a blog is a great platform for communicating. When you first start out, be a reporter instead of a teacher. Then start teaching what you learn. There is always someone where you were 3 months ago.

Promote one product at a time and do it well. Set up a squeeze page with a free offer, build a list, and set up autoresponse emails to promote that one product. Then you can add new products to your list as they come out. Make special time-limited offers and promote products that are limited in some way to increase conversions.

  31. October 2nd, 2009 at 20:52 | #46

Good stuff! You have to decide to take action, and this is a good guide once you’ve made that decision. But really, nothing you fill your head (and hard drive) with does you a lick of good if you don’t take action. Stop sitting on the sidelines and get in the game. It only takes a firm decision. DECIDE.

Great report. I have never tried a WSO but been looking into it. For the price you pay its very beneficial if you get a 100 or more that opt in.

Great report. This is a concise explanation…but the trick is to actually implement it all without getting lost in overwhelm. If your coaching is as clear as this report then it will of tremendous value. What is the format ? Is it going to be live? or videos? or WHAT?

    • Derrick VanDyke
      October 2nd, 2009 at 22:12 | #50

Scott, good point. I’m going to suggest canceling your subscriptions with every marketer who isn’t doing exactly what you want to do in the next few months. For example, if you’re working on building a list and selling resell rights, then stop reading emails from guys talking about making millions with CPA marketing.

Make a choice and stick to it. Only associate with like-minded people. That’s whn the magic happens. That’s what keeps you focused on your goals. And that’s what leads to joint ventures.

The format of the coaching program will be what I call “Interactive Video Coaching” and it’s actually better than a live webinar because you get to ask questions AFTER you’ve already attempted to take the action steps. You watch the videos, follow the action steps, and if you have questions, you post them to me and I’ll send a quick reply or if necessary, I’ll include it in an Q&A video.

Will the list building part of GVO be usable like
aweber or is it only for GVO ?

    • October 2nd, 2009 at 21:59 | #57

Hi Ed, GVO has it’s own autoresponder system similar to Aweber called “eResponder” and it’s for your personal use to promote whatever you want.

  38. October 2nd, 2009 at 22:12 | #58

A very informative report. The bit about getting traffic is a bit tricky but needs to be planned well as that is my biggest weakness in internet marketing.

    Thank you.

  39. October 2nd, 2009 at 22:26 | #60

For list building we require autoresponder like aweber, get response etc. Is there any cost effective way pl. This is a great block in the way of list building who cannot afford subscription in the beginning.

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 02:35 | #61

Vivek, running a business costs money. But compared with an offline business, it’s insanely inexpensive!

If you don’t have enough to pay $20 a month for an autoresponder, I suggest working at a regular job until you do.

    Hey Derrick

Great and to the point article. I just emailed it to my son.

Will this new course for 30 people be based on the one you just finished a few weeks ago?

I was part of that training but spent the better part of it in the hospitol.

I haven’t finished the last course yet and since I’m so far behind I don’t have the option of sending you questions to answer in your next video.

    So the final questions are:

Should I try to get into this new course so I’ll be able to ask questions during the course or is it the same as what I already have from you?

If it’s the same, is it OK to still ask you questions and expect that you’ll have time to answer them even though the course was over a few weeks ago?

If it’s the same can I get in again so I can be taught on a more live basis that I missed out on the first go round?

    Thanks for everything.
    Take Care

    Hi Derrick

Thanks for an extremely informative report and as you suggest in the report, kept short and concise. I have been so busy getting a product up and accepted by Clickbank, that list building has not been as big a priority as maybe it should have been.

As Dave Lovelace has so rightly pointed out here, “Most of us learned by trial and error. The important thing is.. to just do it. You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going, then work on tweaking it for improvement later.”

True words, as my product has now been accepted by Clickbank only this week and I’m still tweaking the salespage etc, but the format is novel and I believe will beneficial to customers in the niche http://weightlossdietvideos.com

A question I would like to ask. What is the quickest way to get a new product on Clickbank ranked so that it will be in the top 10 say, in it’s niche and would Joint Ventures help in the process?

Thanks again for the info from yourself and all contributers on this blog and any Joint Venture ideas would be great.

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 14:42 | #66

Hi Joe, you rank in the Marketplace is based on gravity, which is basically the number of individual affiliate promoting your product and making sales.

So you need a lot of sales AND a lot of sales from different people. The easiest way to get a lot of people promoting you is to pay 75% commission (max at CB) AND run a contest. Figure out how much prize money you can give away and still break even and impose a minimum number of sales to win each prize.

There is also a script that will rotate your OWN sales through multiple ClickBank accounts, which makes it appear to come from multiple affiliates. Don’t remember where I saw it. Search Google for “clickbank script rank gravity” (without the quotes).

      Good luck!

Well, I was skeptical at first. Another how to ebook with a lot of fluff. At least it was free so I decided to give it a try. I was impressed. Straight-forward, to the point. I haven’t even finished reading yet. Good Job!!!!

    Thanks Derrick,
You truly deliver quality content with cool strategic proven systems for affiliate marketing success and I’m fortunate to be on your email list.

Another Great report Derrick – I have a list of 2500 people that doesn’t seem responsive, I’m not really sure what to do with it, so I just keep building the list and not selling to it.

I guess finding a good product is the stumbling block because there’s a lot of setup for just one shot. So I tend to use Twitter to drive traffic to my offers instead – but that has a limited life span per offer too.

I made a few bucks off your Twitter Traffic Machine and then it stopped pulling traffic too. Is that the nature of the beast – a limited lifespan and then on to another promotion?

I’d like to set up something with a solid shelf life.

    I think I’m missing something.

I’ll work through your program step by step.

    Jim

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 02:29 | #72

Jim, if you have 2,500 subs, you should be making $1,250 to $2,500 per month. Which autoresponder service are you using?

  47. October 3rd, 2009 at 00:44 | #73

The concept from the paper is sound. The numbers look inaccurate, or understated at least. But that is okay, because there are billions of people on the web. There is some real distance between a few dots one needs to connect–web sites, squeeze pages, drive traffic, get opt-ins, functional email lists, etc. These subjects are easily broached. Accomplishing them fluidly enough to get tangible results is more onerous. Not trying to be a doubting Thomas; it is granted that if you can master the suggestions in less than year, some money will be made. Repetition will certainly add to the take. But it is no cake walk; there is a lot of work involved. If you are a non-Internet geek, the learning curve can be long. Outsourcing sounds good, but on beer budget it is impractical. For the right cross-section, an interesting read. I am toying with a site name as I write… As with any enterprise the products selected will be crucial to success. Thanks for sharing.

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 02:26 | #74

Doktor, if you’re on a beer budget, keep your day job so you can afford the beer! But keep working toward your goals, even if it takes a year. Because if you don’t start now, you’ll be exactly where you are one year from today. ;)

    How about this…
I somehow mixed with a certain crowd that prefers monetizing site with Adsense because:
    1) Simple to create (simple not easy)…
    2) Easily monetized – just slap Adsense…
    3) Not having to handle customers…
    4) Free traffic method – content and backlink….

So what say you about this issue? I’m all ears…

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 02:21 | #81

Karungwang, if you are making the enough money from Adsense, then that’s great! If not, then maybe you should start building a list…

  53. October 3rd, 2009 at 02:15 | #82

    Derrick,

Thanks again, you keep coming up with keepers, don’t know where I’d be without your help.

After trying this IM thing for a few years now I know for a fact TRAFFIC is #1. Building a list is the key to targeted traffic in any niche.

I’m definitely interested in your upcoming training, keep me in the loop.

    Yours in SUCCESS,
    Dan Kroeger

ps. I’m working the GVO launch directly under you I cuold use any help you can send my way for that also. Thanks again.

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 02:19 | #83

Dan, thanks for the comments. Like many things, GVO is a great opportunity. When you have a list, it’s easy to take advantage of opportunities when they arise.

Concentrate on building the list and everything else will fall into place.

I have been looking at I.M casually for 6 months and have not pulled the trigger. So many potential gurus to follow… Where to spend a buck… How much to spend… Can I really find the time to make this work… But I think it is like starting a family: there is no “perfect time” to get started, so get started now. Derrick, in your opinion, what is the very first thing I should do?

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 14:36 | #85

Thom, the first thing you should do is decide on a business model. And basically, there are three choices:

      1) You can be a traffic broker. This is where you learn to send traffic to offers for a commission. You can get traffic from PPC, banner ads, social marketing, etc. But you should always master one source before moving on to the next. The allure of this model is that you don’t have any ties to anything and you don’t need a website or anything else. The problem is that, unless you perfect a system and outsource the work, you’re still one person trading time for dollars.

      2) Another choice, and the one I recommend, is to focus on building a list of prospects through joint venture marketing. If you do it right, you can get $1 per subscriber per month. So if you have 1,000 subscribers, you make $1,000 per month.

      3) The third choice is to create your own products and get affiliates to send you traffic. That’s what I do now. But that’s not how I started.

I started with a hybrid system of models 2 and 3. See, I was a programmer and designed websites for years before getting into IM. So it was easy for me to set up reseller sites and an affiliate program. But being a Jack of all trades is not always a good thing.

If I had to do it over again, I would have outsourced a lot of the work. Doing it all myself slowed me down. Now I outsource things that I could do myself, but someone else could do just as easily freeing me up to focus on the important stuff like setting up joint ventures and creating new products.

So, to answer your question, you need to make a choice and then stop looking at anything else that’s not related to the path you choose.

Hi Derrick I already know, that you know what your talking about, and you are successful, but thats where you,and I are light worlds apart, because I have many websites, and many failures.I have set up domains, and advertised on safelist after safelist, and joined many affiliate programs.I dont have funds for an auyo responder,or know how to make a squeeze page, and I have failed miserably until I cant even look at my wesites anymore. The cost became to great for,the monthly costs of the domain without a return on investment,so two of them got shut down.I paid $4400 for one,and $3095 for,the other, but when I got a phone call from a salesman, that told me,that they would get me sales through websites that would cost$550 dollars, and, the promotion for a year would cost $3500.00 I figured this would be turn key,and I could get things accomplished this way,but after months of calling, and trying to speak with someone, not one sale ever. Now the site has been lost forever without a trace, and I stuck paying off my credit cards without any return at all.I have a few other sites ,but I really cant afford anymore of this as you can see I have failed at everything without one single sale ever. Its not my lack of inyerest or trying, but a total lack of confidence, that this time may be different. What do you recommend for a loser like me,and how can I finally be successful.Im very familiar with paypal, and alert pay,but I dont know how to set up a payment through them.I have promotes many afiliate links to no avail. Please help me Im lost, and your not Thanks Dana

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 14:19 | #87

Dana, it sounds like you got scammed, bit time! I would immediately get in touch with your bank or credit card company and CHARGE BACK on those charges. And if they don’t help you, take them to small claims court.

You can get started with a simple squeeze page and very little money. All you need is a hosting account and an autoresponder, which are under $30 per month combined.

A domain name is under $10. And even if you have to outsource the work to have your squeeze page set up, you can easily get started for under $100 and see your first profits in a few weeks or less.

    Hi Derrick,
Thanks. I just downloaded your report. Once I finish reading it, I’ll get in touch with you. As a matter of fact, I am having difficulty building up a list. Do I need to own an autoresponder?

Rusliesophian, you will need an autoresponder and I recommend Aweber.com or GetResponse.com

    Dear Derrick VanDyke ,

I want to ask about one practical question on list building for B to B business of my own.

I have got a 80% correct list of potential buyers but the list everything including company name, telephone, email address also but without contact person and without the particular garments they currently buying or sourcing for.

How do you think should I approach them so that they will tell me what they want.

I am doing all kind of garments export in China.

Please give me solid procedures to catch those good buyers if you were me.

    Thanks

    Hi Derrick,

Very nice report. I really liked how you organized the list buidling proccess in a few easy steps.

Now, a question about autoresponders. You recommend in your report Aweber and GetResponse. What about the AR form GVO? I know you are in GVO. What do you think about their AR?

    Thanks.

    All the best,
    Cristian

    • October 3rd, 2009 at 14:05 | #94

Cristian, I’ve been using Aweber for six years and just started with GVO. So I can’t really compare the two. I am using the GVO eResponder for a new list. So I’ll have more info soon.

    Hi Derrick,

Great report, very concise. I liked it so much I just bought your Affiliate Cash Secrets product.

Questions: I am new to internet marketing and am primarily a direct mail marketer and have a site showing how other people can do the same at http://www.myjunkmailsecret.com. I have another site at http://www.simpleimvideotraining.com which is a ready-made style site branded for me. I believe these sites should convert well, so my questions are:

How do I get free traffic to these sites to start making money and in a reply to an earlier question from Claude you said ready-made sites are a waste of time. Can you explain why and am I wasting my time with the video training site which is ready-made?

I’d be most grateful for your expert advice and am very interested in your upcoming coaching program and would like to be included.

    Kind Regards,
    Doug Savage

    • October 5th, 2009 at 20:33 | #109

Thanks Doug, I checked out your sites. But I didn’t see any way to subscribe to a list. You need a squeeze page or at least a popover on arrival or exit. Give away a free report or video to capture leads.

You’re selling resell rights from your own domain. What I mean by “business in a box” is something that you don’t control, like a replicated site. If you sell a product from your own domain, you control the conversion process and you can build a list.

The easiest way to get traffic and build a list is to JV with other marketers who sell similar or related products. Set up ad swaps, autoresponder swaps, bonus ad swaps and other cross promotions that boost conversions for both partners.

    October 10th, 2009 at 19:33 | #110

    Derrick,
My question is how does one build a successful list without being one of the listed?

I recently cleaned out my mailbox of over 2000 emails! I had subscribed to several lists which in turn were partners with others. Therefore, floods of emails entered my box! I wish to avoid that happening again, thus my question.

One of the secrets to internet marketing is choosing the best products to promote, I realize that. But how does one accomplish that when there are so many entrepreneurs grappling at their share of the traffic with squeeze page after free give-away after newsletter subscription after another?

reading your list building pdf now and looking to hear more about your new coaching program, LB
